Silver prices rose Rs 255 to Rs 36,145 per kg at the futures trade today after speculators built up positions even as the metal weakened overseas.
On the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in March rose Rs 255 or 0.43 per cent to Rs 36,145 per kg in a business turnover of 774 lots.
Likewise, the metal for delivery in far-month May traded higher by Rs 100 or 0.27 per cent to Rs 36,804 per kg in 14 lots.
Analysts said the rise in silver prices at futures trade was mostly attributed to building up of positions by participants but overnight weakness in the metal overseas capped the gains.
Meanwhile, silver fell 4.2 per cent to $15.59 an ounce in New York yesterday.
