Taking positive cues from the overseas market, silver prices today surged by Rs 253 to Rs 56,100 per kg at the futures trading as speculators enlarged their positions.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in July surged by Rs 253 or 0.45 per cent to Rs 56,100 per kg with a business turnover of 4,827 lots.
Similarly, the metal for delivery in September also shot up by Rs 234 or 0.41 per cent to Rs 56,831 per kg with a trade volume of 204 lots.
Market analysts said fresh positions created by speculators on the back of a firming trend overseas mainly supported the increase in silver futures prices.
Meanwhile, the white metal futures rose 2.09 per cent to $37.57 an ounce in New York.
