Small cardamom continues to loose aroma

Small cardamom continued to show an easier trend with the prices declining further on Monday at the forenoon auction held in Bodinayakannur.

Total arrivals stood at 12 tonnes and of this 10 tonnes were traded. The maximum price was at ₹1,255 a kg. The auction average dropped to ₹1,016.23 a kg from ₹1,068.55 a kg the previous Monday.

The commodity continued witness a downward trend last week with the average price falling to below ₹1,100 a kg for the first time after several weeks.

An increased in supply coupled with fall in quality of the material arrived and slow buying by domestic dealers and exporters has aided the price fall, P C Punnoose, General Manager, CPMC told

Individual auction average slipped and it was vacillating between ₹1,047 and ₹1,193 a Kg.

Total arrivals during the season from August 01 up to April 8, 2017 were at 15,247 tonnes and sales stood at 14,466 tonnes.

The individual auction average for the season as on April 8, 2017 was at ₹1,150.77 a kg.

Prices today in Bodinayakannur, Tamil Nadu, the main trading hub for the aromatic spice in the country,were in ₹/Kg : 8mm bold 1,450-1,500 ; 7-8mm 1,280-1300; 6mm -7mm 1,180 and below 6 mm: 1,100. Medium bulk was traded at Rs1,100 a kg.
