India’s soyameal exports rose by 54 per cent to 1.80 lakh tonnes in June, according to the industry data released today.
The country had exported 1.17 lakh tonnes of soyameal in June 2011, Soyabean Processors Association of India (SOPA) said in a statement.
In the first quarter of the current financial year, shipments of soyameal, which is used as animal feed, rose by 9.7 per cent to 6.55 lakh tonnes, as against 5.97 lakh tonnes in the same period of the 2011—12 fiscal.
Meanwhile, during October 2011 to June 2012 - the period of the current oil year - soyameal exports fell by 4.28 per cent to 34.41 lakh tonnes compared to 35.95 lakh tonnes in the same period of the previous oil year.
According to the government data, the country is estimated to have harvested 12.23 million tonnes of soyabean in the 2011-12 crop year (July—June).
