The price of the spot turmeric was decreased again on Friday.
“At the week end market on Friday the buyers quoting decreased price purchased the turmeric. In the morning the price in the Turmeric Futures showed a minus status, the buyers of turmeric in then local markets quoted decreased price. Though they are having very negligible number of upcountry demand showed keen interest in buying the good quality turmeric and purchased 50 percent of the arrived stocks”, said R.K.V. Ravishankar a trader.
The stockists have purchased 30 percent stocks, totally of the 4000 bags of turmeric arrived for sale, 80 percent stocks were sold. All the hybrid varieties were sold and good quality local varieties were also sold. The turmeric grower farmers said that they expected that the price may touch by Rs ten thousand on Friday, but unfortunately their expectations were failed.
Regarding the price, the hybrid finger variety was decreased by Rs 200 a quintal and the local variety by Rs 150 a quintal.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association Sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at Rs 6100 to Rs 9115 a quintal. The root variety was sold at Rs 5234 to Rs 8212 a quintal. Of the arrival of 2110 bags of turmeric 870 bags were sold.
At the Regulated Marketing Committee the finger turmeric was sold at Rs 7389 to Rs 8850 a quintal. The root variety was sold at Rs 7189 to Rs 8214 a quintal. All the 647 bags of turmeric arrived for sales were sold.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society finger turmeric was sold at Rs 7211 to Rs 8889 a quintal. The root variety was sold at Rs 7188 to Rs 8289 a quintal. Out of 1092 bags of turmeric kept for sale, 960 bags were sold
