Spot turmeric prices decreased on Monday at Erode markets as only medium and poor quality arrived for sale. “The arrival as well as price decreased at spot markets. For the past couple of days, the spice has been seeing a downtrend in futures also by losing ₹300-400 a quintal. Also, the traders have no fresh upcountry demand for the turmeric,” said RKV Ravishankar, a trader. Regarding the price of the turmeric, the finger variety decreased by ₹700 a quintal in the Regulated Marketing Committee and the root variety by ₹350. Though the prices were on the decline, the sale of both the varieties were encouraging with 70 per cent. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, the finger variety was sold at ₹5,306-8,977 a quintal; the root variety at ₹5,000-8,219. Of the arrival of 1,862 bags, 962 were traded.
