Importing Sri Lankan pepper and selling it cheap even after the imposition of MIP of ₹500 a kg have pulled down the spot prices further on Tuesday. On the terminal market, 31 tonnes of pepper arrived and of these 16 tonnes of imported Sri Lankan pepper were traded today at ₹410 a kg. Seven tonnes from Pulpally and Bathery went for ₹412, while eight tonnes from the High Ranges fetched ₹515. Spot prices fell further by ₹200 a quintal to ₹41,100 (ungarbled) and ₹43,100 (garbled). Export prices were at $6,975 a tonne c&f Europe and $7,225 for the US.
