The Tea Board has announced the average price to be paid to small growers in the different regions of the Nilgiris for their green leaf supplied last week to bought-leaf factories.
“This was calculated on the basis of Price-sharing Formula based on weekly average auction price of CTC tea manufactured by these factories”, Tea Board Executive Director C Paulrasu said here.
Accordingly, the average green leaf price for Kotagiri is `11.56 a kg (average tea price: ` 71.15 a kg), Panthalur ` 10.39 (` 63.91), Gudalur ` 10.35 (` 63.72), Ooty ` 10.26 (` 63.16), Coonoor ` 10.23 (` 62.93) and Kundah ` 7.72 (` 47.52).
“Farmers are advised to sell their green leaf based on this price”, Paulrasu said.
Meanwhile, Chandra Shekar Mitra, Deputy Director of Tea Development in Siliguri announced on Friday the Minimum Benchmark Price (MBP) for green leaves payable for September bt the registered manufacturers to the small tea growers.
Accordingly, the MBP for Darjeeling plains is ` 10.59 a kg, Jalpaiguri ` 11.13, Coochbehar ` 8.84 and Uttar Dinajpur ` 10.66.
