Traders in UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan and Delhi have claimed that they were getting Vietnam pepper at lower rates. On the terminal market 14 tonnes were traded. Of these 5 tonnes from the south were traded at ₹425 a kg and 9 tonnes from the high ranges were traded at ₹430-435 a kg.
Domestic demand is picking up and buyers were quoting ₹425 a kg but sellers were hesitant, they said. Spot prices fell further today by ₹300 a quintal to close at ₹42,100 (ungarbled) and ₹44,100 (garbled) a quintal. Indian export prices were at $7,100 a tonne c&f for Europe and $7,350 a tonne c&f for the US.
