Spot turmeric prices increased by Rs 300 a quintal following demand from Delhi, Odisha and Punjab. Arrivals and sales also increased on Wednesday.
“ Traders quoted higher price and procured huge stocks, as they have received orders from Delhi, Odisha and Punjab, said R.K.V. Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
He said due to Telugu New Year in Andhra Pradesh, the Nizamabad market was closed for a week from Wednesday. Further due to labour problem, the Sangli market did not function.
So, turmeric growers will bring their produce to Erode markets from Monday and prices may increase.
All the 200 bags of hybrid turmeric were sold for Rs 10,300.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger variety was sold at Rs 4,496-8,074 and the root variety at Rs 4,396-7,055.
Salem hybrid crop : The finger variety was sold at Rs 6,499-10,309 and the root variety at Rs 6,289-7,155. Of the total arrival of 1,006 bags, 700 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger variety was sold at Rs 7,397-8,311 and the root variety at Rs 6,693-7,287. Of the 532 bags on offer, 518 found takers.
