Spot turmeric prices increased due to local demand.
“Some traders have received a few upcountry orders and are buying quality turmeric at a higher price. Every day more than 3,000 bags arrive for sale. The present price is almost feasible for the farmers as the local hybrid is selling at ₹8,200 a quintal and the Salem hybrid turmeric at ₹8,500,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
On Monday, 5,000 bags arrived and 65 per cent stocks were sold for increased price. About 80 bags of Salem Turmeric arrived and all the bags were sold.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger variety was sold at ₹5,599-8,589 a quintal and the root variety at ₹5,408-7,855. Of the arrival of 1,653 bags, 945 were traded.
