Vietnam pepper sold at higher prices

Sieved bolder berries imported from Vietnam at $3,550 a tonne as against its market price of $4,500-4,700 in Vietnam has been imported by paying 54 per cent duty and is being sold in the country at ₹550 a kg, market sources told Business Line .

Indigenous pepper was not available in good volumes in the markets as the farmers were holding back their produce. On the terminal market, four tonnes of mixed pepper were traded at ₹470/kg. As a result, the spot prices increased further by ₹200 a quintal to ₹45,100 (ungarbled) and ₹47,100 (garbled). Export prices were at $7,600 a tonne c&f for Europe and $7,800 for the US.
