Palmolein rose by Rs 5 for 10 kg on Friday as Malaysian palm oil futures rebounded and the rupee fell to 55.06/07 against dollar.

Groundnut and cottonseed refined oils were up Rs 10 on firm sowing reports from producing centres.

Soyabean, sunflower and rapeseed oils ruled unchanged. Volumes increased and refiners increased prices.

A weak rupee makes import costlier. More than 3,000 tonnes of edible oils were traded during the day, said broker Shailesh Kataria. The market is likely to remain firm, he said.

Liberty sold 1,000-1,200 tonnes of palmolein at Rs 479-481 and 250-300 tonnes of super palmolein at Rs 533-535. Ruchi sold 1,800-2,000 tonnes of palmolein at Rs 475-477 for December delivery and at Rs 478-480 for January, 100-150 tonnes of soyabean refined oil at Rs 670-671 and 80-100 tonnes of sunflower refined at Rs 775.

Resellers offloaded 350-400 tones of palmolein at Rs 472 (excluding Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust).

Malaysian palm oil futures touched a near three-week high on Friday supported by gain in competing US soya oil markets.

Palm oil is set for its first weekly gain in five as traders sought to cover short positions after Malaysia removed export tax on crude palm oil for January to cut stocks.

In Saurashtra and Rajkot, groundnut oil ruled steady for a third day. Arrivals were negligible.

In Rajkot, a 15-kg telia tin was Rs 2,030 (Rs 2,030) and loose (10 kg) Rs 1,325 (Rs 1,325).
