The Finance Ministry on Wednesday met domestic financial institutions who have sought a rationalisation of the securities transaction tax and discussed measures to encourage retail participation in equity markets.
"It was an interactive session with domestic financial institutions. Subjects discussed include development of market infrastructure, widening of investor base and retail participation and deepening of corporate bond market," Shaktikanta Das, Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, said after the meeting.
Proposals for rationalisation of taxes were noted down by CBDT and CBEC, he said, adding these would be examined by the government.
