The rupee closed below the 56 level at 55.61 to the dollar after touching a high of 56.40 in a volatile market on Friday.
Amid mild selling of dollars, rupee bounced back to 55 levels after fluctuating about 79 paise in the intra-day trade.
The rupee opened at 56.20 against the dollar in the morning trade.
On Thursday, the local currency had closed at 56.10 on the back of low GDP figures, speculations and inaction from the government.
Call rates and G-Secs
Call rates closed at 7.90 per cent for the day after touching a low of 7.50 per cent during the day. It opened at the day’s high of 8.15 per cent today.
The benchmark 8.79 per cent yielding maturity in 2021 closed at Rs 102.70 yielding 8.36 per cent at the end of the day’s trade. It opened at Rs 102.85 in the morning.
On Thursday, the 10-year government bonds closed at Rs 102.44.
