The rupee weakened further against the dollar in late afternoon trade on Thursday.
At about 4.40 pm, the rupee was trading 25 paise lower at 65.74 against yesterday's closing level of 65.49 at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market.
The domestic currency opened lower at 65.60 and traded between 65.77 and 65.60 in intra-day deals.
Fresh demand for the American currency from importers and a weak domestic equity market put pressure on the rupee, dealers said.
The rupee had recovered by 15 paise to 65.49 against the US dollar in yesterday’s trade on fresh selling of the American currency by banks and exporters.
