The rupee today fell by 7 paise against the US currency to close at 66.84 on fresh dollar demand from banks and importers on the back of strong dollar in overseas markets.
Firm stock markets as well as consistent foreign capital inflows failed to restrict the rupee’s fall against the dollar, a Forex dealer said.
The rupee opened lower at 66.85 a dollar as against last closing level of 66.77 a dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market. It hovered in a range of 66.71 and 66.8575 before ending at 66.84 a dollar, showing a loss of 7 paise or 0.10 per cent.
The domestic currency had gained 22 paise or 0.33 per cent in the previous two trading days.
