The rupee plunged 50 paise on Thursday as the greenback strengthened against major currencies.
The rupee ended 50 paise lower at 63.32 against Wednesday's close.
During the day, the rupee moved in a range of 45 paise between 63.34 and 62.89 at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market after opening at 62.97.
The rupee had strengthened by three paise at 62.82 against the US dollar in yesterday’s trade on persistent selling of the American currency by banks and exporters amid fresh foreign capital inflows into the equity market.
The Sensex closed lower by 155 points or 0.56 per cent at 27,735.02 while the NSE Nifty finished 38.65 points or 0.46 per cent down at 8,391.05.
