The rupee opened 15 paise higher at 64.49 per dollar on selling of the US dollar by banks and exporters.
The rupee traded between 64.63 and 64.43 in intra-day deals.
The domestic currency ended 9 paise higher at 64.55. The rupee had closed with gains of 20 paise at 64.64 a dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market on Friday.
The rupee was supported by higher equity markets, dealers said.
However, the US dollar’s strength against major goobal currencies overseas capped the rupee’s gain, they added.
