The rupee appreciated by 11 paise to Rs 50.27 per US dollar in early trade today at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market on increased foreign capital inflows.
Dealers said higher opening in local equities and gains in other Asian currencies overseas against the US dollar, supported the rupee.
Yesterday, the domestic unit had lost 47 paise to close at 50.38/39 against the dollar on strong demand for dollar from some banks and importers in view of its higher value in the international market, and a steep fall in the equity markets.
Meanwhile, the BSE benchmark Sensex recovered by 82.61 points or 0.47 per cent to 17,758.46 in early trade.
