After opening weak by 14 paise at 60.82 per dollar against the previous close of 60.68 against the dollar on the back of fresh dollar demand from importers and gains in the dollar index, the domestic unit hovered in the range of 60.52 and 60.88 in the afternoon trade.

The US dollar index, which measures the greenback’s strength against major global currencies, was trading strong at 81.95, up 0.07 per cent against the previous close of 81.83.
