Rupee trading a tad strong at 64.72

The rupee was trading strong by 30 paise at 64.76 in the evening trade on fresh dollar selling by exporters amid firm domestic equity market.

Forex dealers said weakness in the dollar against other major currencies after the Federal Reserve released the minutes of its last policy meeting showing officials were worried about the strong dollar and inflation, supported the rupee.

Further, a strong domestic equity market influenced the rupee uptrend, they added.

Earlier, the rupee opened strong by 20 paise at 64.86 at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market today. It further strengthened to 64.73 before being quoted at 64.76 at 4.35 om local time.

The local curreny hovered in the range of 64.92 and 64.73 in the evening trade.

Yesterday, the rupee had lost 11 paise to end at 65.06 against the US dollar at the interbank forex market.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex ended higher by 233.70 points or 0.87 per cent at 27,079.51.
