The rupee was trading a tad strong at 66.41 in the evening session despite appreciation of the dollar against other currencies overseas.
Forex dealers said the dollar's gains against other global currencies and a weak domestic equity market weighed on the rupee.
The rupee opened weak by 10 paise at 66.52 against the US dollar in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market today.
It hovered in a range of 66.52 and 66.31 before being quoted at 66.41 at 4.10 pm local time.
The rupee had gained 31 paise to close at a three-week high of 66.42 in yesterday trade.
Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex ended lower by 284.56 points or 1.1 per cent at 25,519.22.
