The rupee was trading a tad weak at 64.84 in the evening session on sustained demand for the US currency among importers amid shrinking exports in September.
Earlier, the rupee opened weak by 8 paise at 64.90 against the dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market today. However, it strengthened to 64.82 before being quoted at 64.84 at 4.30 pm local time.
The local currency hovered in a range of 65.02 and 64.82 in the evening trade.
Dealers said that the dollar was firm against major global currencies following stronger-than-expected US inflation data which dampened the rupee sentiment.
The rupee had gained 21 paise to close at 64.82 against the US dollar in yesterday’s trade on sustained selling of greenback by banks and exporters amid persistent foreign capital inflows into the equity market.
Meanwhile, the benchmark Sensex ended higher by 204.46 points or 0.76 per cent at 27,214.60.
