The rupee was trading strong by 9 paise at 62.58 in the evening session at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market on fresh dollar selling by banks and exporters.
The domestic unit recovered by 10 paise to 62.57 against the US dollar in early trade. It firmed up further to 62.53 before being quoted at 62.58 at 4.35 pm local time.
The domestic unit hovered in the range of 62.53 and 62.66 in the evening trade.
Forex dealers said that the dollar’s strength against other currencies overseas capped the gains.
The local currency had lost 26 paise to close at 62.67 yesterday due to renewed month-end demand from the dollar from importers.
Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex ended the session down by 18.37 points or 0.07 per cent at 27,957.49.
