Rupee trading strong at 66.67

The rupee was trading strong at 66.67 in the evening session on increased selling of the US currency by exporters and banks amid higher foreign fund inflows.

Forex dealers said a weak dollar against some currencies overseas boosted the rupee sentiment.

The rupee opened weak by 3 paise at 66.80 at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market today.

It hovered in a range of 66.80 and 66.65, before quoting at 66.67, up 10 paise at 3.55 pm local time.

Yesterday, the rupee had gained 20 paise to close at a fresh three-week high of 66.77 on sustained selling of the American unit amid a strong recovery in domestic equities.

Meanwhile, the 30-share BSE index Sensex ended up by 10.99 points or 0.04 per cent at 27,020.66.

In the overseas market, t he dollar hit a five-week trough against a basket of currencies on Wednesday, hurt by waning expectations that the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates anytime soon.

The dollar index, which tracks the greenback against a basket of six rivals, edged down 0.1 per cent to 93.740 after dropping as low as 93.68, its lowest since May 6.
