Gold futures on MCX opened lower at Rs 30,865 per 10 grams on Monday against the previous close of Rs 30,913. It touched a high of Rs 30,905 and low of Rs 30,811. The February contract was down 0.04 per cent at Rs 30,900 at 1 pm.
In Comex, the yellow metal was up by $3 at $1663 a troy ounce at 1 p.m.
With Christmas round the corner, the US market will have a half-day trading session on Monday. Volumes are expected to remain thin with no major economic data release slated today.
The depreciation of rupee against dollar in the futures market has limited fall of gold prices in India.
