Gold futures on the Multi Commodity Exchange opened higher at Rs 31,171 per 10 grams on Thursday against the previous close of Rs 31,140.
December contract made a high of Rs 31,214 and a low of Rs 31,152 before bouncing back to Rs 31,167 at 1.25 pm. The depreciating rupee will limit any sharp fall in gold prices during the day.
In Comex, it was trading lower by $4 at $1,749.
