Gold futures on MCX opened lower at Rs 30,599 per 10 grams on Friday against the previous close of Rs 30,631.
The February contract touched a high of Rs 30,657 and low of Rs 30,546. It traded with a gain 0.51 per cent Rs 30,636 at 1.15 p.m.
In Comex, the yellow metal for February delivery gained by $0.8 to $1,647 a troy ounce.
PTI reports: Marketmen said gains in gold prices at futures trade was mostly supported by covering-up of short positions by speculators but a weak trend in the precious metal overseas, capped the gains.
