Tracking a firm trend overseas, silver prices rose 0.4 per cent to Rs 38,841 per kg at the futures trade as traders built up fresh positions.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in May rose Rs 156 or 0.4 per cent to Rs 38,841 per kg in a business turnover of 83 lots.
Similarly, the white metal for delivery in far-month July was trading higher by Rs 87 or 0.22 per cent to Rs 39,350 per kg in 597 lots.
Market analysts said fresh positions created by participants in line with a firm trend in global markets mainly influenced silver prices at the futures trade.
Meanwhile, silver rose 0.45 per cent to $16.91 an ounce in Singapore.
