Silver prices shot up at the bullion market here on Wednesday on sudden spurt of speculative demand triggered by surging global trend.
Gold also gained further on higher jewellery off-take amidst stockist buying.
Silver ready (.999 fineness) zoomed by Rs 2,290 per kg to close at Rs 60,820 from Tuesday’s closing level of Rs 58,530.
Standard gold of 99.5 per cent purity added by Rs 75 to end at Rs 28,620 per 10 grams from Rs 28,545.
Pure gold of 99.9 per cent purity went up by Rs 80 to finish at Rs 28,750 per 10 grams as against Rs 28,670 previously.
In New York, gold for April delivery rallied $13.50 to $1,788.40 an ounce on the Comex division of the NYMEX late yesterday.
Silver for March contract rose $1.62 to $37.14 an ounce.
