Hindalco Industries made rapid strides in the latter half of the day to record gains of 4.64 per cent and emerge the top gainer on the BSE near the close. At 2.55 pm it was trading at ₹178 as against ₹170.10 at close on Friday.
Auto stocks maintained their firm trend to extend their morning gains ahead of the close. Hero MotoCorp made further ground to trade at ₹2,726.75 as against ₹2,608.15 at close last week. This represented a gain of 4.55 per cent.
Maruti Suzuki also rode up further to hold gains of 4.37 per cent at ₹2,905.90. The stock had ended the previous session at ₹2,784.35. The auto major today reported that domestic sales for August were up 29 per cent at 98,304 units.
Tata Power charged up 3.45 per cent at ₹89.90 as against ₹86.90 at close last week.
GAIL (India) edged up further to trade at ₹457 as against ₹443.80 at close on Friday. This was a gain of 2.97 per cent.
