HDFC led the pack on the NSE as well near the close on Friday. At 3.30 pm the share was trading at Rs 1,171.90, up 4.26 per cent on its previous close at Rs 1,124.
Asian Paints extended its morning rally to hold gains of 3.46 per cent in late trading. It was quoting at Rs 775.05 as against Rs 749.15 at close yesterday.
The markets ended the second trading day of the new year on a positive note, with the Sensex gaining nearly 400 points and the Nifty notching up gains of over 100 points in a rally led by financial sector shares. Overall sentiment was buoyed by a report that showed the country's manufacturing growth had surged to a two-year high in December.
Jindal Steel also retained its firm undertone to trade at Rs 161.95, up 3.45 per cent on its overnight close at Rs 156.55.
UltraTech Cement firmed up 2.99 per cent to quote at Rs 2,742.10 as against Rs 2,662.50 at close yesterday.
ICICI Bank extended its morning gains to trade at Rs 362.30 as against Rs 352.30 at close yesterday. This was a gain of 2.84 per cent.
