Auto counters came under sustained selling pressure with even the two-wheeler manufacturers, which are better equipped to cope with any demand slowdown, not escaping the trend.
The 10-share BSE Auto index was down by 122 points. Major losers were the two prominent two-wheeler manufacturers — Bajaj Auto and Hero Motocorp. While Bajaj Auto shed Rs 66.90 or 4.47 per cent to trade around Rs 1,429, Hero Motocorp lost Rs 54.75 to trade around Rs 1,782.
Mahindra & Mahindra, which is present in many vehicle segments, shed Rs 19.40 to Rs 647.10. It was Maruti, which lost Rs 4 to trade at Rs 948.50, and Tata Motors, which was trading at Rs 196.25, a loss of Rs 2.35, that were relatively stable.
