Financial sector stocks Axis Bank and HDFC led the charge on the BSE on Thursday morning. At 10.45 am Axis Bank was the top gainer on the bourse, trading at Rs 571.35. This represented a gain of 2.15 per cent on its overnight close at Rs 559.30.
HDFC rode up 1.92 per cent to trade at Rs 1,256.80 as against Rs 1,233.10 at close yesterday.
Wipro spurted 1.81 per cent to trade at Rs 628.85. The share had closed the previous session at Rs 617.65.
Hindustan Unilever gained 1.34 per cent at Rs 912 as against Rs 899.95 at close yesterday.
TCS was the other IT stock in the limelight, trading up 1.32 per cent at Rs 2,547.10. The share was trading at Rs 2,514 at close on Wednesday.
Benchmark indices the BSE Sensex and the NSE Nifty resumed their uptrend on selective buying by funds and retail investors despite weak Asian cues.
The Sensex notched up nearly 100 points and was hovering just below the 29,000 level, even as the Nifty gained about 20 points to trade near the 8,800 level.
