Banking shares made rapid strides to emerge the top gainers on the BSE at the close on Wednesday.
Axis Bank ended the day at the head of the pack, notching up gains of 4.95 per cent at Rs 559.10 as against Rs 532.75 at close yesterday.
ICICI Bank was up 3.32 per cent at Rs 318.80 as against Rs 308.55 at close yesterday.
GAIL (India) shed some of its morning gains to trade at Rs 377.10 at the close. This was down 2.82 per cent on its overnight finish at Rs 366.75.
SBI traded up 2.52 per cent to quote at Rs 274.15 as against its overnight finish at Rs 267.4.
HDFC edged up further to hold gains of 2.41 per cent at Rs 1,219.90 as against Rs 1,191.20 at close overnight.
