Two-wheeler majors Bajaj Auto and Hero Motocorp, along with the banking giant SBI and capital goods leader L&T, emerged as the major gainers on the BSE today, enabling the Sensex to hold firm ahead of the opening of the European markets.
However, the Tata group companies in the Sensex, which had made handsome gains in yesterday’s trading, took a pause in the rally but made small gains.
With the unveiling of the draft new telecom policy, Bharti Airtel gained about 3.94 per cent or Rs 14.30 to trade around Rs 377. L&T gained about Rs 30 or 2.17 per cent and crossed the Rs 1,400-mark to trade around Rs 1,416.
Two-wheeler stocks — Bajaj Auto, which gained Rs 32.35 or 2.08 per cent to Rs 1,586, and Hero Motocorp, which gained Rs 24.45 to trade around Rs 1,985 — were the other significant Sensex gainers on the BSE.
The Tatas pack- Tata Motors (trading around Rs 174.20), Tata Steel (Rs 441) and Tata Power (Rs 105.30), made minor gains. The BSE Sensex was holding around 16,680 level, a gain of about 120 points. Nifty was at 5,019 levels up by about 40 points.
