BPCL flared up 3.79 per cent to lead the pack on the NSE in the Monday morning session. At 10.50 am it was trading at Rs 774.50 as against Rs 746.20 at close on Saturday.
Axis Bank held on to its firm undertone to trade at Rs 634.75. This represented a gain of 3.62 per cent on its overnight close at Rs 612.60.
Larsen & Toubro gained 3.50 per cent to quote at Rs 1,829.90. The share had ended Saturday’s session at Rs 1,768.10.
ACC held firm to trade at Rs 1,732.40. This was a gain of 3.24 per cent on its previous close at Rs 1,678.10.
UltraTech Cement was also on the ascendant, gaining 3.07 per cent in the morning session. The share had closed Saturday’s Budget session at Rs 3,135.75.
The Sensex and the Nifty shed most of their early gains on heavy selling in the mid-morning session. The Sensex, which had surged 170 points early on in the day on positive Asian gains, dropped lower to hold gains of around 40 points at the 29,400 level, while the NSE also halved its morning gains to trade up 25 points at around the 8,920 level.
