On a day when IT stocks stole the show in the markets, state-run oil major BPCL held firm to stay ahead of the pack on the NSE near the close on Thursday. At 3.40 pm it was quoting at Rs 750. This represented a gain of 4.02 per cent on its overnight close at Rs 721.
HCL Technologies also held firm to notch up gains of 3.80 per cent at Rs 1,972.65 as against its overnight close at Rs 1,900.35.
Wipro made further ground to hold gains of 3.08 per cent at Rs 638.25. The share had ended yesterday’s session at Rs 619.20.
Infosys also joined the party to post gains of 2.38 per cent at Rs 2,193.8. The share had closed Wednesday’s session at Rs 2,142.85.
TCS gained 1.52 per cent at Rs 2,552.4. It had closed yesterday’s session at Rs 558.60.
The benchmark indices BSE Sensex and the NSE Nifty closed the day marginally in the red after being propped up for most of the session on value buying by investors. The Sensex ended the session down around 30 points at the 28,850 level and the 50-share NSE index Nifty fell 12 points to 8,711.70.
