The Nifty and the Sensex closed flat on Friday. Though the benchmarks traded in the green for most part of the day, a report by the comptroller and auditor general on alleged losses to the ex-chequer sent the indices downwards.
The Nifty closed at 5366, up three points while the Sensex closed at 17691, up 34 points.
The report said that allocation of coal blocks, land allocations and award of ultra mega power projects were questionable.
“The Centre has already countered CAG’s report by saying that the numbers are overstated,” said a fund manager from a mutual fund.
Tata Motors, HUL,ITC, Infy, Wipro were the top five Nifty gainers while Jindal Steel, Tata Power, R-Infra, DLF and Hindalco were the top losers.
Volatility was flat and the India Vix closed at 15.73.
