Metal stocks extended their recent rally on the markets into trading on Wednesday. However, Cairn India was the top gainer on the NSE during the morning session. At 11.30 am the share was trading at Rs 255.90, up 4.30 per cent on its overnight close at Rs 245.35.
Sesa Sterlite gained 2.49 per cent to trade at Rs 215.95 as against Rs 210.70 at close yesterday.
Jindal Steel spurted 2.24 per cent at Rs 155.50. The share had closed the previous session at Rs 152.10.
Sun Pharma also rose 2.15 per cent to trade at Rs 961.50 as against Rs 941.25 at close on Tuesday.
Tata Steel held firm to trade at Rs 388.30, up 1.89 per cent on its overnight close at Rs 381.10.
In the broader market, the Sensex and the Nifty came off their early highs on selling pressure. Both the benchmark indices, the Sensex and the Nifty, were trading marginally in the red ahead of the mid-session, with the Sensex retreating below the 29,000 level and the Nifty below the 8,800-mark.
