Exchange-traded funds seem to have gained popularity among mutual fund investors with equity markets in a tizzy this fiscal. The number of folios of these funds have seen an increase of 31 per cent from March to September this fiscal, and an increase of 82 per cent from September 2010 to September 2011.
While Gold ETFs have seen an increase of 34 per cent this fiscal from 31 lakh folios as at end March 2011 to 42 lakh folios in September, while ETFs other than gold have seen an increase of 21.9 per cent from 10 lakh to 12 lakh folios.
For the one-year period, the number of ETFs (other than gold) saw an increase of 108 per cent, while Gold ETFs rose by 75.74 per cent.
