Shares of sugar-makers such as Bajaj Hindusthan, Dwarikesh Sugar and EID Parry may see buying as the Centre on Wednesday relaxed norms for mills to export sugar.
The country is likely to produce a record 29.5 million tonnes of sugar in the 2017-18 season that ends on September 30, up 45 per cent from the previous year. The move will help sugar mills export millions of tonnes of surplus sugar, which may prop up sugar prices in the domestic market.
