Financial institutions Punjab National Bank and HDFC moved up over 1 per cent to lead the pack on the NSE on Friday morning. At 11.15 am PNB had gained 1.29 per cent to trade at Rs 168.30 as against Rs 166.15 at close yesterday.
HDFC rode up 1.17 per cent at Rs 1,348.50 as against Rs 1,332.85 at close yesterday.
Asian Paints edged up 0.74 per cent at Rs 814.05. The share had ended the overnight session at Rs 808.10.
Lupin perked up 0.54 per cent at Rs 1,893.55 as against Rs 1,883.35 overnight.
Coal India moved up 0.36 per cent at Rs 366 as against Rs 364.70 at close yesterday.
The Sensex and the Nifty failed to extend their morning rally and settled lower near the mid-session. The Sensex, which had breached the 29,000 level early in the session, lost over 120 points to settle just above the 28,800-mark, while the Nifty came off its morning high above the 8,800 level, to settle just below the 8,750 mark.
