Gujarat State Fertilisers and Chemicals (GSFC) on Thursday informed the exchanges that it has commissioned a plant to produce film grade nylon on February 28.

The plant can produce 15 tonnes per day of film grade nylon of varieties such as lubricated chips, nucleated chips and combination of lubricated and nucleated chips. Since India has no manufacturer of film grade nylon-6, the country has been importing it from Germany.

With the commencement of production of film grade nylon-6, GSFC has entered an import substitute product.

The Indian plastic industry will benefit greatly from this development, a company statement said. In a separate statement, GSFC said it has also successfully commissioned its caprolactam quality improvement project from Wednesday.

At full load, GSFC can produce an additional 1,000 tonnes of caprolactam from caprolactam extract and 3,500 tonnes of ammonium sulphate per annum as byproduct.

With the commissioning of this project, GSFC expects improvement in its bottomline by approximately ₹15 crore per annum.

Shares of GSFC closed flat on the NSE at ₹128 against the previous day’s close of ₹128.15.
