Metal and banking stocks led the pack on the BSE on Tuesday morning. At 10.40 am Hindalco Industries, quoting at Rs 143.45, was the top gainer on the bourse. This represented a gain of 2.32 per cent on its previous close at Rs 140.20.
Tata Steel gained 2.25 per cent to trade at Rs 393.45. The share had closed the previous session at Rs 384.80.
Sesa Sterlite jumped 1.94 per cent at Rs 196.90 as against Rs 193.15 at close yesterday.
Axis Bank was up 1.79 per cent at Rs 538.10 as against Rs 528.65 at close on Monday.
State Bank of India rode up 1.56 per cent to trade at Rs 318. The share had closed the previous session at Rs 313.10.
The markets were buoyed by the RBI's surprise rate cut last week and robust earnings reported by some blue-chips. The Sensex as perched above the 28,400-level, having notched up gains of over 160 points during the session. The Nifty had breached the 8,600-level with gains of over 50 points.
