The equity indices on Thursday ended on a weak note by dropping nearly 1 per cent.
The Sensex ended 0.8 per cent lower at 37,736 while the Nifty 50 index closed 0.9 per cent lower at 11,102.
Almost all the sectoral indices closed lower except for Nifty Pharma index, which ended 3.1 per cent higher. Dr Reddy's Laboratories finished the day with an all-time high of Rs 4,500 with a gain of 4.6 per cent. The IT index was the other sectoral gainer ending 0.69 per cent higher.
The top laggard was the Media index ending with a loss of 2.3 per cent. The Metal and FMCG index registered a decline of 1 per cent each.
The Midcap and smallcap indices fell 0.8 per cent and 1.1 per cent respectively.
The India Volatility Index ended 3.2 per cent higher at 24.9.
The market breadth was negative with 1,141 stocks on the NSE ended with losses while 689 posted gains.
