TCS was the top gainer on the BSE and NSE on Tuesday.
TCS shares jumped 3.95 per cent to Rs 2,082.25 on the BSE as against its earlier close of Rs 2,003.05.
On the NSE, it finished up 4 per cent at Rs 2,087 as against Rs 2,004.85 at close yesterday.
With core sector stocks taking a breather, IT stocks were back in the limelight. Stocks in sectors such as banking, auto and power shed some of the gains after a sustained rally in the past few days and it was the turn of the IT sector to sparkle today.
MindTree gained Rs 37.30 (2.77%) to move up to Rs 1,385, Tech Mahindra was up by Rs 38.25 at Rs 1,711.95 and Infosys added Rs 34.75 or 1.04 per cent to Rs 3,373.55.
Other major gainers: Persistent Systems was up by Rs 34.65 at Rs 882.90, eClerx Services gained Rs 12.45 to Rs 1,050 and HCL Tech saw its share price move up to Rs 1,156, a gain of Rs 12.60.
Of the 20 CNX IT index stocks, there were six losers- CMC (-0.76%), Vakrangee (-0.74%), Financial Tech (-1.25%), NIIT Tech (-1.89%), Core Education & Technologies (-2.34%) and Rolta (down 3.05%) while Polaris was unchanged.
