Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average rose 2 per cent on Tuesday after volatile trading as investors picked up cheaper stocks after recent losses.
The Nikkei gained 271.94 points or 2.05 per cent to end at 13,533.76 after falling 3.72 per cent on Monday. The broader-based Topix index was up 28.52 points or 2.6 per cent at 1,125.47 after losing 3.42 per cent on Monday.
In the currency markets at 3 p.m. (0600 GMT), the dollar traded at 99.85-86 yen, down from Monday’s 5 pm quote of 100.20-22 yen.
The euro was quoted at 130.47-54 yen, down from 130.58-59 yen late Monday, and at 1.3066-3067 dollar, up from 1.3029-3030 dollar.
