Jindal Steel led the pack on the NSE in the morning session on Friday, the second trading day of the new year. At 10.29 am it was trading at Rs 161.95, up 3.45 per cent on its overnight close at Rs 156.55.
The market opened the day on a firm note with the Sensex shooting up nearly 300 points and the Nifty trading up by nearly 80 points on ample capital inflows.
Financial sector scrips HDFC and ICICI Bank were the other prominent gainers in the session. HDFC was trading at Rs 1,150.80 as against Rs 1,124 at close yesterday. This represented a gain of 2.38 per cent.
ICICI Bank moved up 2.16 per cent to trade at Rs 359.90 as against Rs 352.30 at close yesterday.
Asian Paints was also on a firm wicket, notching up gains of 2.30 per cent to quote at Rs 766.40 as against Rs 749.15 at close on Thursday.
Tata Motors was also broadly firm, driving up 2.01 per cent to quote at Rs 508.45. The share had ended yesterday’s session at Rs 498.45.
